FYI
I just put a cheque for £125 made payable to red nose day 2003 in the post. That wraps things up. Thanks to everyone for your support.

Day 7. At last. Today, you wanted to hear me singing I'm too sexy, you sick, sick people. (you also seem to have a fixation on lesbian kittens). Unfortunately, I couldn't find a sound recorder that would let me record more than a minute of sound, so I couldn't do the full song. Instead, I just did enough of it to get the idea across, because that was all I could fit in. Sorry about that. But anyway, you can download the mp3. I haven't actually dared to listen to it more than a few seconds at the start and end to check it recorded properly, so I hope there's nothing too hideous on there.

And that's it! I'm done! I'm free! Thank you all for sponsoring me, and I hope you've had as much fun with this as I have. In the end, I think we raised £105 for comic relief.

As I mentioned the other day, I could probably be convinced to do a day 8 and maybe even a day 9 if people want to give me more money, but I figure there's no point in figuring out how to work them, if nobody wants to sponsor me for more money. So, if you would like to give me more, either out of the goodness of your heart, or because you like making an idiot out of me, then comment here. Otherwise, that's your lot. It's been a blast.

Schoolgirl pics
As I said earlier, I didn't and couldn't do the box thing, and I'm not planning to do it. Anyone who thinks that I should be doing is invited to tell me that they think that I've been doing things half measure this week, at which point I will tell you to sod off. What I did do though, was go out in the pouring rain, and buy myself a fairly decent attempt at a schoolgirl outfit. And here for your delectation and delight are some pictures.

Unless anyone really kicks up a huge fuss, I'm absolving myself of the necessity to do the box thing. I have two reasons for this:

1. It simply would not have been possible for me to do it today, without the box turning to mush
2. I more or less did the "take a shower full clothed" thing from earlier this week instead.

Yes, it was absolutely throwing it down, and I came in looking like a drowned rat. I'm mostly dry and warm now though, and I think I managed to find clothes to make a somewhat credible attempt at a schoolgirl, and I'll get photos of that sorted later on, with a bit of luck.

Day 6 results, day 7 poll
Yesterday, you voted for "tie a length of string to a box and pull it along behind her as if it's a dog, then go to a charity shop and buy a schoolgirl outfit to wear the following day". Unfortunately, I seem to be suffering massive burnout and exertion. My body and brain aren't used to this sort of exertion, and are rebeling, so I'm seriously doubting my ability to get this done. So instead, I'm just going to do the schoolgirl bit, and then if anyone is disapointed by that then I'll do the box bit in a week or so when I've had some rest.

So now for the vote for day 7, which is also the final day, at least for now. To try to get more cash out of you all, I've agreed to do a day 8 if you can collectively donate another £20, and a day 9 if you donate a further £20 beyond that. Day 8 would be a vote between all the second place items, and then day 9 would be a marathon day, where I perform a total of 8 of the forfeits, one from each day, of my choice, all on the same day. But I figure that I need a rest before them, so they'll come in a few days time, if at all. I'll put up details of how to donate more money if you so wish, after tomorrow's task is complete.

But anyway, the day 7 vote. Being a pikachu for the day will involve dressing as completely in yellow as I can manage, getting yellow spray in hair stuff if I can, painting red circles on my cheeks, and saying nothing but combinations of "pi" "pika" and "chu" all day. The Coronation Street thing is because I can't stand soaps. The rest should be fairl self explanatory. Poll closes at noon tomorrow, GMT.

More pics, and methods for eating cheesecake
When Buffy finished, I went to look at the survey to see what type of cheesecake I had to eat. And it was a tie between toffee and blackcurrant, which meant a random selection, and the random selection said... blackcurrant. Damnit. But anyway, I dressed in my old lady outfit, and then went off to Safeway, ad bought a piece of cheesecake. When I got back, I chatted for a little while with kimble and barakta, and then it was time to do the deed. So, I cut myself a slice of the cheesecake, and then prepared to eat it.

This took me quite a while. First I had to motivate myself enough to put a bit of it in my mouth to see if it really was as bad as I expected. It was. If anything, it was worse. So I tried to fgure out the best way to eat it. My first thought was to eat it in really tiny bits, and just out it straight in and swallow it straght down so as not to taste it. That didn't work though; I oculd still taste it, and such small bits would have meant a lot of mouthfuls. My next thought was to try using large mouthfuls. It would still be disgusting, but I'd get it over with quickly. Good in theory, but in practice, it nearly made me throw up, so I gave up on that strategy. Next up, I tried stuffing my mouth with chocolate before putting a bit in my mouth, to try to mask the taste, but that didn't work either, as I could still taste it. And then finally, I hit on the ultimate solution. I put a piece in the front of my mouth, and then took a big gulp of water, and swallowed it down as if it were a pill, which worked, and let me eat it without much tsting it, so before long I had it all finished.

Day 5 results, day 6 poll
The results of the day 5 poll are in, and later on today I shall be eating a vile piece of cheesecake. What flavour of cheesecake isn't yet decided though, so go vote (preferably for something other than blackcurrant).

Fairly self explanatory set of options here, I think. The going to a charity shop part of the box-dog thing is the same idea as the other day, and I put schoolgirl as it came second in the vote (I don't know how good an approximation to a schoolgirl outfit I could find in a charity shop mind. Even my old lady outfit isn't the best. I will try if you vote for that, but be warned that the results may not be brilliant). For dying my hair (and remember that silly hair is the theme of this year's red nose day), things do depend on what dye I can get hold of. I think I should be able to get hold of all colours, but I don't know. I'm also going to use permanent dye if available, or semi-permanent otherwise. Just so you know. My hair is currently brown and blonde, but I've included those two in the list, in case you want me to go all blonde or all brown, or half and half one of them and something else. If by some freak chance, blonde and brown wind up the top two, and you vote for two colour hair, then I'll just ignore the one in second, and go with the third place instead. Navel piercing, letter writing, and essay writing should all be self explanatory.

This poll ends at 12:00 GMT tomorrow.

Poll #109633 day 6

Prince charming, prince charming, ridicule is nothing to be scared of
So, as voted for, today I covered my face in squiggles and pottered on off to a charity shop. Surprisingly enough, I didn't get any ridicule, although I did attract a very healthy number of stares, which was great fun. I am such an exhibitionist at times. I also got a group of schoolkids sticking fingers up at me from within a bus, which is just amusing really.

At the charity shop, my task was to buy old lady style clothes. I was unusre of my ability to select them, right up until I was at the counter, when one of the old ladies behind it commented to the other old lady behind it, that the brown blouse I'd chosen was a very pleasant colour. I think that counts as a result. I'm not sure how well the clothes I bought fit, but they were the right size, so I should be able to wear them even if they aren't a perfect fit, and as I only need to wear them once, the fit isn't that important.

In total, I spent £6.98 on clothes. I also spent 20p on books, which bought me both the secret diaries and the growing pains of Adrian Mole.

Oh yes, and you'll probably be wanting pictures won't you? I took one of myself in squiggles, which turned out surprisingly non-atrocious for a self taken picture, but does show you the delightful curtains in my bedroom. Photos of the old lady outfit will have to wait until tomorrow, when I actually wear it.

More about cheesecake
You know how I said earlier that I didn't know what flavours of cheesecake Safeway sell? Well, I've just been there to buy more normal food, so I now know. So I'm doing a new poll, to supercede the final part of the current one. Again, this poll only comes into play if you vote that I should be eating cheeseake, and otherwise will be ignored. If the cheesecake option doesn't get voted for, then this is irrelevant. If it does get voted for then this poll will stay open until 19:30GMT tomorrow when Buffy finishes, at which point I'll go out and buy it. I think that all makes sense.

Poll #109328 day 5, supplemental

If rho ends up being made to eat cheesecake, what flavour should it be?

Day 4 results, day 5 poll
First off, the result of yesterday's poll. You people have voted that I should make myself up to look like a complete idiot, and then go and buy clothes to make me look like an old lady. Sounds like a lot of fun, and I'll do that later on.

So now comes the question of what I do tomorrow.Quite a few explanatory notes needed for tomorrow. Firstly, I'll point out that any money that I make by selling stuff on ebay here will, of course, be added onto all the sponsorship money and donated to comic relief. Secondly, a snog token is a piece of paper saying "I promise to pay the bearer on demand one snog" or a similar phrase. Anyone who presents me with one, I will snog (properly, with tongues if they so desire; not just a quick peck). Only much use to people who are likely to see me in person or are nuts enough to cover my travel expenses to go see them. Then there's the cheesecake, which is probably confusing. This is a support thing. There's a fairly fierce argument in support, between those who are pro_cheesecake and those who are anti_cheesecake. I come down firmly on the anti cheesecake side of the fence, hence this particular item. It's also worth noting that the cheesecake option is the only one that actually requires me leaving the house wearing the od lady outfit I'll be buying today (I have to go buy it). Remember that the selection is pretty much random, and that I have nothing to do with it. And finally, I would have given you more options as to what type of cheesecake, but I haven't a clue what safeway stock and those two seemed the most likely. If you vote for that, and they end up not having either of those, then I'll take another variety.

Since my sleep patterns seem to be getting later and later right now, I'm going to say that this poll ends at noon GMT tomorrow. Have fun with it.

Edit: I now know the types of cheesecake, so the last part of this poll is now irrelevant. Look at the new cheesecake poll instead. Or rather, as well, because you still need to fill out the rest of this one.

Poll #109124 day 5

On thursday, march 06, rho should...

go to holdthebutton.com and hold the button for a long time, without cheating
1(5.9%)
make three snog tokens, and auction them on ebay
5(29.4%)

3(17.6%)
make something with my own hands and auction it on ebay
1(5.9%)

3(21.4%)

2(14.3%)
120 minutes
2(14.3%)

2(14.3%)
javascript
2(14.3%)

day 3 results, day 4 poll
Much to my great delight, you lot voted not to send me to London in the end. To my slightly less great delight, you decided that you wanted me to write poetry instead. I think I'm going to have to go and look up some poetic forms. I'd feel cheap writing limericks and haikus all day. I've randomly selected who gets to be the targets for my poetry writing, and come up with the not displeasing selection:

wednesdayschild
jennyrhill
anejo
calliste
ratkrycek

What lucky, lucky people.

But now, onto the question of what I do tomorrow. A couple of quick explanatory notes on the options: the comic relief CD is a truly awful cover of Spirit In The Sky sung by Gareth Gates and the Kumars. All its proceeds go to Comic Relief (which is the charity I'm giving to as well, in case you've forgotten). Then there's the final option on the poll, which may be a little confusing. In the begining, there were a couple of instances of "walk around Canterbury looking silly in some way". Then 36 suggested the possibility of going to a charity shop and buying a silly outfit to wear the following day. I decided to combine the two, so that I'd have an objective to accomplish while looking silly, rather than walking around aimlessly (I had enough of that yesterday). So if you pick option five from the list, then that's what it entails.

As usual, the poll closes when I wake up tomorrow (or 9am, if I wake up before then) and if you have any questions or queries then just ask.

Poll #108518 day 4

On wednesday, march 05, rho should...

buy the red nose day cd and play it on repeat all day
0(0.0%)
spend a night under the stars in her garden, with only a sleeping bag
2(11.8%)
speak in rhyming couplets (in real life, and online) all day
5(29.4%)
"wash" her hair in raw eggs
0(0.0%)
use facepaint and/or makeup to cover her face in coloured swirls and squiggles, and go into canterbury, to a charity shop, and buy an outfit to wear the following day
10(58.8%)

and in that final case, she should try to buy an outfit to make her look like

a schoolgirl
5(31.2%)
an old lady
6(37.5%)
she has no fashion sense or colour coordination at all
3(18.8%)
a train spotter
1(6.2%)

My walk, by rho, age 21 and eleven twelfths
So I went walkies earlier, like you voted for, and here's where I went. Rather than bore you all with a long list of "turned left into foo road, then right into bar avenue, then left into baz street" sort of thing, I've done upa few maps of my route.

map one
map two
map three

Map one has the first iteration of the instruction set; map two has the second iteration, and the start of the third, where I went around in a wonderful circle; map three has the remainder of the third and final iteration.

Maps are lifted wholesale and without permission from multimap. If you want the maps without the lines, then go there, and put in CT1 3QG as the postcode.

If anyone really wants the throw by throw account of it, then complain at me, and it can be provided, but I promise you that it won't be interesting.

A little tale from the road
I've just recently got in from walking around in circles for around about two hours. I'll do a more thorough write up when my feet and back have stopped hurting (walking doesn't agree with me. And from the lucks of things, you lot want me on my feet again all day tomorrow. You are so mean) (no pictures unfortunately. I forgot the camera), but for now, I just want to recount a little incident that happened while I was out. I passed a couple of boys in the street; they were about 12 or 13 from the looks of them. As I went past them, they looked at me with great confusion, then argued about me among themselves, and eventually decided that as I had one side of my hair long and the other sode short, that I must be a boy (because only boys can have 80s throwback hairstyles, right?). Once they'd decided this, they lost their confusion, regained their confidence and then and only then decided to hurl random abuse at me, when I'd already walked about 15 yards past them. It was all I could do to keep from bursting into hysterical laughter. I think I might like this hairstyle :)

day 2 results, day 3 poll
Only 13 of you actually voted yesterday (out of 19 -- about two thirds), but that's not my problem. A vote is a vote, and you lot decided that today I am going to take an unplanned walk (with an awful lot of left turns), which I shall do later on today.

So now for the poll for what I should do tomorrow. I think all the options are fairly self explanatory. There are two sub-options for extra details if the relevant thing gets voted for. Photos and/or a write will, of course, happen in all cases (though in the case of the dancing naked, you aren't getting any shots of me from the waist down from the front, because I say so). Votes ends at 9am, or when I wake up, as usual. If there's anything you need clarification on, then ask.

Day one result, day two poll
Firstly, the results of yesterday's poll. You people voted, and you wanted to see me cut off the left side of my hair up to my ear, and so this is what I shall be doing today. Pictures will appear at some point, later on.

And now for the second day's poll. Again, there are four fairly self explanatory options, plus oe slightly more complicated one, that also comes with an extra vote. The idea of the unplanned walk is that I have a series of left and right turns (take the first left, then the third right, etc.) and follow that pattern meticulously, starting over from the begining when I get to the last instruction. You get to specify the pattern, by voting on first, second or third left or right turn, which I'll carry out in the order the votes come in. And I've arbitrarily decided that I'll walk for an hour and a half, and then finish off the current version of the instruction set, and then head home. A full report of my route will, of course, be forthcoming. Oh and I'm feeling nice, so I'm going to give you the option of choosing what colour food I should eat if I take a monochromatic diet as well.

This poll ends at either 09:00GMT or when I wake up, tomorrow (monday), whichever is later. As always, if I've not explained things properly, or you want more information about something, feel free to ask.

update OK, so I'm an idiot. Not only did I originally post this in my personal journal rather than this community, I've also made a cringeworth braino (you're instead of your) in the poll, which I can't correct. My excuse is that I've not been up all that long, and I didn't get all that much sleep either.

Poll #107766 day 2

bake, and then go into canterbury and give the results to random passers by
3(23.1%)
go on an unplanned walk
4(30.8%)
make toast sculptures in a public place
2(15.4%)

Day one, poll
So I'm jumping the gun a bit, but it's technically saturday here now, and I can't resist. So I'm setting the ball rolling. If you haven't paid yet, then please do, and I'll add you to the community and you'll be able to vote. These options are all fairly self explanatory, with the possible exception of the hair cut one. If you vote for that one, then I'm going to cut my own hair, or at least, one half of it. You also get to choose which half, and how short I cut it. You also get the chance to get me to cut the other half (either to match or not) later in the week. Vote on the second bit even if you're voting for a different first part -- that bit comes into play only if the haircut one gets selected in the first part. Other than that, everything should be self explanatory. Voting ends at either 9am, or when I wake up on sunday, whichever is later. If you have any questions about anything, then please ask me, otherwise get voting.

FYI
For your information:

If you have any nifty ideas for stuff you'd like to see people be able to vote on for me to do, then try to get them to me before tomorrow (friday) evening (around about 7pm GMT). At that point, I'll compile the final full list, and hand them over to iloverach who has agreed to be my mostly-random suggestor (she'll pick out which items are on vote each day, so nobody can accuse me of fixing things so all the stuff I don't like is on the same day so I only have to do one fo them, or anything like that. She's going to be picking things mostly at random, but with human intervention to stop things like me dying my hair one day and then cutting half of it off the next day). A few more good practical suggestions would still be useful at this point.

Secondly, mortaine and bubba wanted to know if there will be a photographic record of proceedings. In short, the answer to this, is yes.

Additionally, I've been pondering fine details. Would you people prefer that I use radio buttons (one person, one vote) or check boxes (each individual can cast a single vote for as many options as they wish)? It makes no difference to me, as I'll only be doing whichever one gets the most votes (and I've decided that in the event of a tie I'll flip a coin, roll a die, etc to make the final decisiion), so I figured I'd ask. I also figured I'd ask if you like polls to be lj-cut or not, as it'll all be going onto your friends page.

It's actually happening. Please donate
Right. This whole thing is going ahead.

All money that I get from this goes to charity (Comic Relief (Registered charity No. 326568)). Unless paypal severely screws me around, all money that you give me will also go to charity. I'll try to adhere to both the spirit and the letter of what I've set out to do, or the next best thing where that isn't possible, but I make no promises, and if for some reason I end up not doing something that gets voted for or whatever, then you can't sue me or ask for your money back

I've removed everyone (except me) from this community. To get yourself readded, so you can vote, you need to donate £5. If I've set everything up correctly, then the following link should work:

(and if I've not done it right, then somebody please kick me)

If you don't like paypal, and can send me a cheque or similar in pounds sterling, then ask me for my address.

I'm going to put the first poll up on march 1 with a new one every day, follow the results of each poll the following day, carrying on until the last poll on march 7, and the final carrying out of the reults on march 8.

If there's anything else you want to know, please ask me; otherwise, please donate.

And more ideas for stuff to vote on would still be appreciated.
